CORPS MEMBER RENOVATES BLOCK OF TOILETS AT GIRLS SCHOOL IN ZAMFARA

A Corps Member in Zamfara State, Tashi Mannesseh David, ZM/23A/0076 has renovated a block of four toilets for use of students at the Government Girls' Day Secondary School, Janyau, in Gusau LGA.
Tashi, an indigene of Nasarawa State and graduate of Mass Communication from the University of Jos carried out the project as part of his personal Community Development Service (CDS) initiatives.
Speaking at the commissioning and handing over of the project on Tuesday, the State Coordinator, NYSC Zamfara State, Alhaji Abdusalam Alhassan highlighted the crucial role of corps members as change agents in their host communities.
He described community development initiatives as a key component of the one year NYSC programme which provides an avenue for corps members to address felt needs of their hosts.
The State Coordinator therefore commended Corps member Tashi for his efforts and dedication in carrying out the laudable project, adding that having functional toilets in a female school environment is a necessity.
He called on the community leader of the Janyau Community and the principal of the school to handle the facility with great care and utilize it for the benefit of all.
Speaking earlier, the Principal of the school, Hajiya Sa'adatu Almajir stated that the project is of great importance to the school and commended corps member Tashi for mobilizing resources to carry out the project.
She disclosed that the block of four-room toilet facility was built by the Zamfara State Universal Education Board in 2012, but had not been in use in the past six years due to its dilapidated state.
"I truly thank Corper Tashi for his efforts, dedication, and passion for community development. He is a true definition of hard work and dedication," she added.
Giving his royal blessings, the head of the Janyau community, Mallam Hamidu Magajin, the Magajin Janyau, appreciated Corps member Tashi Manasseh David for adding value to the school and the host community and prayed for God to reward him for his noble act.
Speaking on behalf of the sponsors, Mr. Salisu Mohammed commended corps member Tashi Manasseh David for a job done well, adding that they are happy to partner with him to achieve this project for the common good of the community.
On his part, the initiator of the project, Corps member Tashi Manasseh David, disclosed that he was inspired to carry out the project when he visited the school for a sensitization programme and decided to do something about it.
Tashi expressed hope that the initiative will help reduce open defecation and promote healthy environmental practices among the students.
He also appreciated the sponsors and partners of the project, which are the Office of the Secretary to the State Government in Zamfara State, Chanja Datti Recycling Company, and Hajiya Sa'adatu Almajir, for their donations towards the execution of the project.
