KBSG to partner with WUFP on teachers training, Donates N20 million for ASUP

The Kebbi State Government expressed its readiness to collaborate with Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic to enhance the capacity of both primary and secondary teachers in the state.
It also donated the sum of twenty million naira to the State Chapter of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, the ASUP as its contribution to enable it build a secretariat.
The State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu announced the donation during the opening ceremony of 9th ASUP National Conference in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.
In addition, Comrade Nasir Idris being a teacher and education friendly Governor has personally donated the sum of five million naira while his Deputy, Senator Umar Abubakar donated two million to the ASUP.
The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafidan Kabi pointed out that the polytechnics have the mandate of producing higher and middle manpower for the nation and have the potential to drive the quest for economic and social development through the use of science, technology and management which are the focus of the Nigerian Polytechnics.
Dr. Nasir Idris who said that, since the inception of his administration, he adopted education as the child of necessity and utmost priority, also vowed to improve teachers welfare in the state.
In his remarks, the Rector Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi, Dr. Usman Sani Tunga said the conference was centered on skills acquisitions as solution to unemployment and insecurity in Nigeria and the role of polytechnics.
Dr. Usman Tunga who acknowledged the commitment of the Kebbi state government towards improving education at all levels, also sought the collaboration of the state government in building the capacity of primary and secondary teachers in the state.
Usman Tunga advocated for the use of technology in solving the climate change, economic, insecurity and other challenges affecting the country. He then appealed for more funds to the polytechnics for educational development.
The Rector challenged the participants to brainstorm on the challenges of the country and national development through embracing the skills acquisitions as the solution to insecurity and unemployment.
In his keynote address, the Former Rector of the Polytechnic and present Kebbi State Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Arch. Muhammad Sani Aliyu emphasised on skills acquisitions as key objective in solving the insecurity, unemployment in the country, saying that entrepreneurship works against criminality.
Other donors at the ASUP fund-raising were the member representing Bagudo and Suru Federal Constituency, Hon. Bello Muhammad Ka'oje who donated N5 million, Chairman Pilgrims Welfare Agency, Alhaji Faruk Musa Enabo, N2 million, Head of Service, Alhaji Sufiyanu Garba Bena N500,000 and Ibrahim Bagudu, N1 million among others.
The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics Kebbi State has announced over fifty million naira as the grand total realized during the fund raising.
