The Zamfara State  Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps Alhaji Alhassan Abdulsalam has appealed  for the improved welfare of corps members serving in government  establishments.

Coordinator made the appeal  during a low-key ceremony held at the Federal Secretariat to mark the passing-out of the 2023 Batch B Stream II Corps members in Gusau Local Government Area of the State.

Alhaji Alhassan  highlighted the crucial roles corps members play in the health and education sectors in the state, he solicited for the prompt payment and upward review of the current allowances paid to corps members to motivate them for increased productivity.

He commended the Governor Dauda Lawal administration for giving top priority to the affairs of the scheme and it's commitment to ensuring the full resumption of orientation activities in the state.

In his words, "The state government must be commended for its interest to ensuring that the NYSC operates effectively and efficiently in the state.  Currently, there is massive reconstruction work ongoing at the NYSC Permanent Camp Tsafe in anticipation of the resumption of orientation activities in the state.

"However, I will like to appeal to the government to make the prompt payment of allowances to corps members serving in government establishments consistent just the way civil servants are enjoying in the state. I also want the Governor to consider increasing the current allowances as it will greatly motivate them", he said.

Alhaji Alhassan described the outgoing corps members as patriots and congratulated them for contributing their own quota to the development of the state.

He urged them to be good ambassadors of the state and the NYSC scheme by imbibing ideals of patriotism, integrity and hardwork.

The coordinator further advised the corps members to shun social vices and idleness but instead utilise the skills they acquired through the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship (SAED) programmme for self-sustenance.

The occasion was also used to honour a  corps member, Nwogu Chinonso, who distinguished himself during service year by donating drugs and other consumables for maternal care to Primary Health Centres in the state.
