NYSC LAUNCHES TREE PLANTING CAMPAIGN IN ZAMFARA

As part of efforts to combat the increasing effects of climate change and ensure a sustainable environment, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)   has launched a tree planting campaign in Zamfara State.

The exercise which was flagged-off at  the premises of Government Girls Day Secondary School (GGDSS), in Bungudu Local Government Area of the State.

In his remarks, the State Coordinator NYSC Zamfara State, Mallam Muhammad Lawan Ahmed stated that the initiative is part of a nationwide drive by the NYSC to protect the environment.

He disclosed that trees provide lot of benefits to the society, hence the need to encourage the planting of more  for the sake of future generations.

"The primary goal of the NYSC is to touch lives, especially at the grassroots, launch of this tree planting exercise in Bungudu is therefore a significant step in that direction" the NYSC boss said.

In his remarks  Emir of Bungudu, Alhaji Hassan Attahiru, MFR,  thanked the NYSC for the intiative which he said will protect the community from deserter encroachment as well as harmful winds.

He disclosed that the tree planting exercise will be not only beneficial to the people but the unborn generation.

Earlier, the NYSC Coordinator and his team had paid homage to the Emir of Bungudu at his palace where  he officially introduced himself and solicited for continuous support of the Emirate in the welfare and security of corps members.

Responding, the royal father recalled his participation in the scheme in 1984 in Ogun State, disclosing that as a corp member, only travelled out of his state of deployment once.

The Emir stated that the scheme helped him to forge lasting friendships and thanked the NYSC for its continued contribution to national unity and integration.
