Cyprus Scholarship: YAN Calls for Immediate Resolutions to Save the Lives of Zamfara Indigenes
From Muhammad Buhari Gusau
Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN), Zamfara State chapter draw the attention of Zamfara State government on the horrible conditions of its citizens in Cyprus and calls for immediate resolution to save their lives in a foreign country.
In a Press Statement Signed by State Speaker YAN Zamfara State Rt. Hon. Ishaka Idris, and made available to the Legacy Newspaper in Gusau the State Capital.
Rt. Hon. Ishaka Idris Said as a youth organisation which advocates for youth development and safety, we stand with our brothers and sisters who have been trapped in a foreign country with no shelter, food and access to health care as the winter sets in.
“These young people were taken to Cyprus on scholarship with a sole dream of becoming resourceful and valuable members of their society but subjected to humiliation, hunger, disgrace and ridicule in a foreign land”
“Their lives are in danger as they are being threatened with jail terms like criminals”
Youth Assembly of Nigeria acknowledges the efforts of Zamfara state government through a powerful delegation sent to negotiate with the Cyprus University Management of the affected students. However, we are dissatisfied with the purported outcomes and the tactical flimsy excuses given as to why our brothers and sisters could be saved from this embarrassment.
“We equally frown at the insensitive and nonchalant attitudes of the state government towards the deplorable conditions of these youth in the foreign land”
“We therefore call on the government to expedite any resolution that will ensure the safety of our brothers and sisters who are currently languishing in fear, hunger, and hopelessness” “The government must do everything necessary to save them as their lives are so precious to us”
