Stakeholders Commend Zamfara Government Over 10-Year Development Plan

From Bilyaminu Muhammad

Traditional rulers and various stakeholders in Zamfara State have expressed strong approval for the state government's ambitious 10-year development plan. Governor Dauda Lawal had unveiled the development plan in October, outlining the state's roadmap for the period from 2024 to 2033.

The plan’s primary objective is to ensure that Zamfara's development initiatives align with national standards and the broader transformation agenda of the country. The state government formed several committees to refine the details of the plan, ensuring it is comprehensive and inclusive. These committees have been tasked with engaging all sectors of the state’s society, especially at the grassroots level.

At an interactive session in Gusau for the Zamfara Central Senatorial Zone, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community stakeholders, civil society organizations (CSOs), youth, and women’s groups gathered to discuss the plan’s objectives. The event provided a platform for the people of the central zone to offer valuable input on the development strategy.

Malam Wadatau Madawaki, Chairman of the development plan's committee and Commissioner for Science and Technology, highlighted the importance of grassroots involvement in shaping the plan. His remarks were delivered by Muhammad Mujtaba Isah mni, Co-Chair of the committee, who lauded the enthusiastic participation from attendees, reflecting their commitment to the state’s progress.

The Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, emphasized the urgent need to prioritize security within the plan. Having witnessed decades of security challenges in the state, he stressed that such issues must be addressed for any meaningful development to take place. He further assured that traditional rulers would collaborate with local communities to gather additional insights and concerns.

In a similar vein, Alhaji Garba Muhammad, the Emir of Dansadau in Maru Local Government Area, reinforced the necessity of involving the grassroots in the development process. He praised the state government's initiative and underscored that no society can thrive without a clear development plan. He also called for greater inclusion of traditional leaders in various developmental sectors.

Ibrahim Tudu, Chairman of the State Coalition of NGOs, also expressed support for the plan, advocating for more awareness campaigns to sensitize the public about its significance. He specifically urged the committee to consider unemployment and innovation as key focal points for the state's future growth.

The interactive session underscored the collective determination of Zamfara’s stakeholders to contribute towards the state’s sustainable development, with a strong emphasis on security, community involvement, and economic empowerment.
