SPEECH BY THE CHAIRMAN NIGERIA UNION OF JOURNALISTS NUJ ZAMFARA STATE COUNCIL COMRADE IBRAHIM MUSA MAIZARE AT THE CONGRESS HELD AT THE NUJ SECRETARIAT MUSLIM FOUNDATION, ANKA ROAD, GUSAU, ZAMFARA STATE ON SUNDAY 26/04/2025
Distinguished colleagues, fellow members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, I stand before you today filled with gratitude and a profound sense of honor. As I welcome all of you to this important congress, I also reflect on this moment as my final address as the Chairman of our Union during this tenure. It has been a remarkable journey, one characterized by the camaraderie, solidarity, and unwavering commitment of each member present here today.
Our leadership, have achieved several milestones that I believe are worthy of celebration. Our collective effort has been focused not only on the welfare of our members but also on fostering peace and good relationships among us. In an industry often fraught with challenges, the unity we have cultivated provides a strong backbone for our work. Together, we have built an environment where mutual support and respect reign. This spirit of collaboration has been pivotal in addressing the issues that affect us as journalists.
One of the proudest accomplishments of our tenure has been the successful organizing of training workshops in collaboration with the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps. This initiative has provided valuable insights and skills enhancement for our members, reinforcing our commitment to professional growth and excellence. Such partnerships are crucial as they ensure we are equipped to navigate the complex media landscape and serve our communities effectively.
Moreover, our collaboration with the Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA) has borne fruit in several ways. We have successfully completed our ICT training Center, providing essential facilities and equipment needed by our members to thrive in an increasingly digital world. In addition to this, we should celebrate the construction of a motorized borehole at a cost of fifteen million naira—an accomplishment that stands as a testament to our dedication to improving the working environment for all members of our Union.
Still under construction is the project of five modern toilets at our secretariat, a feature that is not only functional but also symbolizes our commitment to enhancing our working conditions.
Furthermore, I am pleased to report the successful renovation of seven shops that were damaged in a fire incident. These efforts underline our resilience as a community and our collective commitment to uplifting each other in times of need.
Fellow comrades, I am particularly optimistic about our discussions with His Excellency, Governor Dauda Lawal. Our last meeting yielded assurances that he would fulfill his commitment to construct a new secretariat for the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Zamfara State. I am eager to present to you the proposed plans for this new secretariat, which we believe will significantly enhance our operational capabilities and serve as a beacon of professionalism for years to come.
In addition to these infrastructural achievements, we have also focused on welfare initiatives that resonate deeply within our community. This Ramadan, we were able to extend welfare support not only to our members but also to the families of the deceased. It is our belief that as we grow, we must look after one another, extending our hands in love and solidarity, especially during trying times.
As I conclude my address, I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to each one of you for your support, cooperation, and prayers. Your belief in our vision and work has been instrumental in making these remarkable achievements possible. I urge every member to remain steadfast in upholding the ethics of our profession. Let us continue to communicate truth, integrity, and respect in all our endeavors.
Thank you for your attention, your loyalty, and, most importantly, your commitment to the ideals we stand for as journalists.
Thank you all.
Assalamu Alaikum.
