Cancer : Governor’s wife urges women to prioritise monthly self breast examination

The Wife of Zamfara Governor, Hajyya Huriyya Lawal, has advised women in the state to prioritise monthly self breast examination for early detection of cancer.

Huriyya Lawal give the advice during the Walkway Cancer Awareness Camping  held in Gusau on Friday.

She observed that monthly self breast examination would no doubt assist in early detection of the disease, to enable victims take necessary action before it goes out of hand.

She identified breast cancer signs to include; lump or swelling in the breast or underarm, change in the shape or size of the breast and discharge or pain from the nipple.

“My dear sisters, mothers and daughters, cancer does not choose or discreminate age status or background, but together through awareness and early detection we can save countless lives”

“Let us support one another, get screened and spread the message of hope across state. Together we will build a healthier, stronger and more hopeful Zamfara”. she said.

Huriyya urged women to make it a point of duty to do their self breast examination regularly, visit health center for clinical breast examination annually, get pop smear test to detect cervical cancer early.

“Take the HPV vaccine to prevent cervical cancer, eat healthy, exercise yourself and avoid smoking”

“Be warned breast and cervical cancer are among the common cancer affecting women in the state and the country as a whole,”Huriyya said.
