Zamafara State Local Government Services Commission, in collaboration with Al-Ahl and Associates, has organized a 3-day training workshop for 42 Directors of Administration and General Services, Directors of Finance and Supply, and Internal Auditors.
The workshop focused on leadership governance and Financial controls: the role of financial and Human Resources Managers in the Local Government Area in the State
The Executive Chairman of the Local Government Services Commission, Alhaji Aminu Aliyu Mafara, who was represented at the opening ceremony by the Permanent Commissioner 1 of the Commission, Alh Bello Tudu Gummi, which was held at the Commission's multipurpose hall in Gusau, the State Capital.
Declaring the workshop open, the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Alh Aminu Mafara, stressed that over the next few days, we will deepen understanding and enhance skills in the critical Areas of leadership, governance, and financial control, focusing on the vital role of financial and human resources managers within local governments.
He further said that the workshop underscores the core responsibilities and strategic influence that the roles hold in fostering transparent, accountable, and effective local governance.
The Executive Chairman urged the Directors of Finance and Supply, Administration, General Services, and Internal Auditors across the 14 local government Areas of Zamfara State, to contribute. Expertise and dedication are key to strengthening institutions, improving service delivery, and ensuring the sustainable development of the communities.
He also said that throughout the workshop aim to share best practices, discuss challenges, and develop innovative solutions that will empower leaders with integrity, uphold governance standards, and exercise sound financial control.
"Together, we can build a strong and transparent governance framework that benefits all residents of the State.
I encourage active participation, open dialogue, and the exchange of ideas," he stated.
In his welcome address, the Secretary of the Local Government Services Commission, Barr. Shafi'u Bukhari who was represented by the Director of Administrations of the Commission, Alh Mukhtar Sani said that effective leadership, good governance, and sound financial control
are the pillars of any successful institution. As managers of human and financial resources, the roles are central to ensuring transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the management of public resources at the local government level.
He further said that the essence of the workshop, is therefore, to refresh knowledge on administrative and financial management skills, and equip you with modern techniques for effective service delivery, adding that in the next three days, the participants will engage with experienced
facilitators and resource persons who will lead discussions on various aspects of leadership governance, and financial control.
Barr. Shafi'u applauded the State Local Government Service Commission under the Leadership of Mallan Aminu Aliyu, for initiating and supporting the laudable program. It's a clear demonstration that the Commissions and the State Government are committed to capacity building with a view to building a Competent, Accountable, and service-oriented workforce at the grassroots level.
In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of Al-Ahl and Associates, Dr. Muhammad Lawal Bawa Maru FCNA, said that the workshop aims to enhance the capacity of local governments’ workforce in exploring current leadership principles that can guarantee transparency and accountability in utilizing local government financial & human resources for the betterment of the citizenry.
He further said that the selected participants (Director Admin. & General Services, Director Fin. & Accounts and Internal Auditors) who happen to be the key oversight operators of the local government must see themselves as custodians of the public resources and need to justify their position by imbibing the culture of good governance and effective leadership, adding that the workshop will bring to light issues of good corporate governance ethics, transparency and accountability in the management of public resources.
