The Conflict Prevention, Crisis Response and Resilience Programme, targeting over 95,000 people, in Katsina and Zamfara States.

This was disclosed by the head of Mission, International Organization for Migration (IOM) Nigeria, Mrs, Dimanche Sharon, in a launching of Conflict Prevention, Crisis Response and Resilience Programme, held at Rescue hall in Government House Gusau Zamfara State.

According to Mrs, Dimanche Sharon, the Program will be implemented in eight local government areas in Katsina State, and two  in Zamfara State, with the intention to expand to a third LGA, Tsafe.

“Over the past years, northwest Nigeria has faced significant instability, with more than 650,000 people displaced and over 142,000 returnees recorded” She said.

“Zamfara State alone is currently hosting over 200,000 displaced persons and close to 10,000 returnees. Too many families have been uprooted, too many farms abandoned, and too many lives disrupted”

“Yet, in the midst of these difficulties, the people of Zamfara have demonstrated remarkable resilience, courage, and an unwavering commitment to rebuild”

“This programme is about turning that resilience into lasting peace and stability. With support from the European Union/ Foreign Policy Instruments (FPI), and in partnership with Mercy Corps Netherlands and the Centre for Democracy and Development, IOM Nigeria is working hand in hand with government partners and communities to address the root causes of conflict”

“But what does this mean exactly? It means creating local peace committees so disputes can be solved around the table, not through violence. It also means restoring livelihoods through skills training, farming support, and small businesses so young people, women and people living with disability can build their futures free from fear”

“Additionally, it means adopting to climate-smart solutions because from the few months I have been in Nigeria, I have learnt that 85%  of communities here in Zamfara Statedepend on agriculture, unfortunately, due to insecurity, climate change and conflict over natural resources, these livelihood are facing new challenges like limited access to farm lands, reduced harvest, and peace is impossible if people cannot farm, graze, and share resources sustainably"

“the Conflict Prevention, Crisis Response and Resilience Programme is not just a project. It is an investment in Zamfara people, in its youth, in its women, men, persons with disabilities and in its future. It is about building bridges between communities, strengthening trust in local governance, and ensuring that no one is left behind”

In his Speech at the event, the European Union Ambassador, Mr. Gautier Mignot, Commended Governor Dauda Lawal  for his dedication and support for development partners.
