The Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has commended the enduring legacy of late Sir, Ahmadu Bello Sardauna of Sokoto, describing him as a visionary leader whose values of sacrifice, tolerance, and selfless service remain relevant, particularly for younger generations.
Governor Dauda Lawal, who was represented by his deputy Mani Malam Mummuni Masamar Mudi, at the 12th Annual Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Lecture and Merit Awards, organised by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation.
The event took place on Tuesday, 20th January 2026, at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Dutse, Jigawa State.
Deputy Governor therefore, described late Sir Ahmadu Bello as a leader who devoted his life to the unity, development, and educational advancement of Northern Nigeria.
Malan Mani stressed that, late sir Ahmadu Bello legacy should be remembered at all times and emulated, especially by young people, through leadership founded on sacrifice, tolerance, and service to humanity.
Mani further expressed appreciation to the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation for its consistency, dedication, and sacrifices in sustaining the annual memorial lecture, he reiterated commitment of organizers and call on them to maintain the temple for critical developmental of the region and Nigeria at large.
This year annual lecture had the theme: “Delivery of Equitable Access to Quality Basic Education in Northern Nigeria: A Time of Real Action”
The Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Foundation, Babangida Aliyu, former Governor of Niger State, presided over the occasion.
The keynote lecture was delivered by Ruqaiyyah Ahmad Rufai, who spoke extensively on the urgent need for concrete and collaborative action to ensure equitable access to quality basic education across Northern Nigeria.
The event was chaired by the Gombe State Governor and Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya.
Recipients of the 2026 Merit Awards included Umaru Musa Yar'Adua Former President federal Republic of Nigeria, Theophilus Danjuma, and Zainab Bulkachuwa, among other distinguished Nigerians.
