ZMSG REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO BORDER SECURITY, RESILIENCE AND CROSS-BORDER COOPERATION

The Zamfara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment in strengthening border security, enhancing community resilience, and promoting cross-border cooperation as essential measures for sustainable peace and development.
The State Deputy Governor Mani Malam Mummuni (masamar mudi) made this known while delivering a goodwill message at the One-Day High-Level National Workshop on Border Security, Resilience and Cross-Border Cooperation organized by the National Boundary Commission at the Ladi Kwali Hall, Continental Hotel, Abuja.
Commending the National Boundary Commission for convening the workshop, and described the event as timely and strategic, noting that it provides an important platform for stakeholders to deliberate on the challenges and opportunities associated with border governance in Nigeria.
He observed that, border communities remain critical to Nigeria's economic, social and security architecture but continue to face numerous threats, including trans-border crimes, arms trafficking, irregular migration, cattle rustling, banditry, illegal mining and other criminal activities that undermine peace, stability and development.
Speaking on the situation in Zamfara State, Mani Malam mummuni, noted that, as a frontline state in the North-West region, Zamfara has experienced significant security challenges that have adversely affected livelihoods, agricultural productivity and economic activities.
He therefore, emphasized that, sustainable security can only be achieved through effective border management, intelligence sharing, community resilience and strong collaboration among all levels of government and neighboring communities.
He further highlighted the efforts of the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal in addressing security challenges through strategic investments in surveillance technology, intelligence gathering, community engagement and enhanced inter-agency collaboration.
According to him, recent initiatives undertaken by the state government, including the deployment of modern security assets and improved coordination among security agencies, are already yielding positive results in the fight against insecurity.
The Deputy Governor stressed that, border communities should not be viewed solely from a security perspective but should also be recognized as centres of economic opportunities and social integration capable of contributing significantly to national development.
He also called on participants at the workshop to develop practical and actionable recommendations that would strengthen institutional coordination, improve information sharing, promote technology-driven border management and support sustainable development in border communities across the country.
He expressed appreciation to the National Boundary Commission for organizing the workshop and wished participants fruitful deliberations.
