The Zamfara State Livestock Development Agency, in collaboration with the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), has joined the rest of the world in commemorating the 2026 World Rabies Day, with the theme “Stronger Together.

This was Contained in a Press Released Signed by the Sporksperson of the Agency, Aliyu Buhari Gusau, issued to the Jounalists in Gusau, the State Capital.

According to Statement, The programme commenced with a live phone in awareness programme featuring the Director of Veterinary Public Health, Dr. Fatima Bello, and One Health Officer, Dr. Ibrahim Hassan, who sensitised the public on the dangers of rabies, its transmission and the importance of vaccination.

Statement said, As part of the activities, officials of the Agency trekked from Samaru to the Emir of Gusau’s Palace, where a free rabies vaccination exercise was launched before continuing at the Veterinary Clinic in Gusau.


Statement noted that,  the Executive Secretary of the Agency, Dr. Usman Isma’il Gusau, said World Rabies Day, observed every September 28, provides an opportunity to raise awareness about the deadly but preventable disease.

He called on dog owners to vaccinate their animals regularly and urged parents and guardians to prevent children from approaching stray or unfamiliar dogs. He disclosed that two children had recently lost their lives to rabies in the state.

Dr. Usman also noted that although the Livestock Development Agency was established three months ago, it had already recorded significant achievements in promoting livestock health in Zamfara.


“The Director of Veterinary Services, Dr. Aminu Abdulrazak, and the L-PRES Project Coordinator, Nasiru Mohammed, expressed appreciation to the Executive Secretary of the Agency, Dr. Usman Isma’il Gusau, and the Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello, for their support and commitment towards the success of the rabies awareness and vaccination campaign”

“The Director of Veterinary Public Health, Dr. Fatima Bello, emphasised that rabies is preventable through timely vaccination, while the Head of Gusau Animal Clinic, Dr. Abubakar Hussaini Rawayya, disclosed that hundreds of dogs were vaccinated during the exercise”

“The officials stressed that sustained public awareness, responsible animal ownership and regular vaccination remain essential to preventing rabies and protecting both humans and animals”

FMC Gusau re-affirms Commitment towards upgrading to a teaching hospital

By Ibrahim Ahmad The Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Gusau on Tuesday , reaffirmed its commitment towards upgrading to a teaching hospital for enhanced service delivery. The Medical Director of the FMC Gusau, Dr Bello Mohammed made the re-affirmation during the inauguration of a medical  “Common room” constructed by the centre’ s branch of the Nigeria Association of Resident Doctors (NARD).
