Bauchi State Correspondent's Chapel Set to Elect New Leadership Wednesday

As three Man Member of Credential/Election Committee of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ Bauchi State Correspondent's Chapel, accredited thirty-seven members of the Chapel to vote on Wednesday to elect new leaders.

The election, was scheduled for October 7th , October 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m, at the chapel Secretariat according to a notice issued by the Election Committee.

Eight candidates were cleared to contest the various positions, while two aspirants disqualified for failing to satisfy constitutional requirements.

The chairmanship race features Samuel Luka of Daily Times and Rauf Oyewole of The Guardian.

The position of Secretary will be contested by Mohammed Nasir Shuaibu of New Telegraph and Armstrong Bakam of Arise TV.

As while Adamu Shehu Imam of Trust Television and Ayinde Abdulsaheed Olaide of NAN, are contesting for Treasurer, while Mohammed Kawu of New Nigeria Newspaper and David Adenuga of The Nation have no opponents as Vice Chairman and Auditor respectively.

The committee listed Ayuba Maffi Ajiya of BusinessDay and Suzan Edeh of Daily Independent among the aspirants who were not cleared.

Maffi Ajiya, who sought to contest for Financial Secretary, was disqualified on the grounds that he did not meet the five-year practice requirement prescribed under Article 6 (7) (a) while Suzan 

Edeh, an aspirant for Vice Chairman, was not cleared over an educational qualification requirement cited under Article 3 (2) (b) of the NUJ Constitution.

The election and swearing-in of successful candidates will be supervised by officials of the NUJ Bauchi State Council.

The Election Committee under the Chairmanship of Ahmed Mohammed of Daily Trust, has urged all eligible voters to attend the exercise and participate in choosing the new leadership of the Correspondents’ Chapel.
